Media Studies today is shaped by new and converging media industries. The old distinction between audience and producer is blurred, with audience as participator.”

Web 2.0: “Since the audience is now participator and media expert, they have control over the message, not big institutions”.

4.    Explain Strauss’ theory on binary oppositions. His theory is concerned with a tension between two opposing characters. White/black, men/women, masculine/feminine, old/young.

5.    According to Hall, how are BME’s (black minority ethnics) represented in the media? Hall focuses on representations of black, Asian and minority ethnic groups in the media. “Black minority ethnic people are usually represented as the other”.

8.    Explain the notion of hybridity. Some people resist hybridity because they like to stick to their ethnicity.
